kittizens
Kittizens of San Francisco completed by over 60 guests at Superfine! Art Fair 2.27.2020
The kittizens have arrived!
Kittizens are the playful, curious, adventurous, and at times mischievous critters that frequently inhabit the landscapes painted by Rob Anderson. The name derives from the words Kitten-Citizen, with a strong emphasis on ZEN while painting. The project is aimed at everyone who wishes to participate in the joy of creating art together.
How it works
Time lapse of an extremely fun Kittizen mural.
First, Rob begins to create black outlines on an oversized canvas. The scenes he paints are typically improvised and based on local recognizable landmarks which are populated by his Kittizen characters. As he paints, he begins to invite onlookers to fill in each section with color. Rob provides paint markers in over ten colors that guests use to bring life and vibrancy to the illustration. Along the way, Rob shares information on the attributes and techniques on how to master the materials that guests are using. Sometimes, mistakes are made, but it is the nature of the project to allow for these happy mistakes to occur. What matters most is that everyone keeps going! Once participation is over, guests are given signed Official Kittizen Muralist certificates in honor of collaborating together. Over 1000 people have participated in murals across New York, California, New Jersey, Florida, and Hungary.
